Community Action for Health (CAH) program

From 2007 to 2012, DAWN Trust successfully implemented the Community Action for Health (CAH) program in Perambalur Block, reaching 54 villages across 20 panchayats. This initiative, under the National Health Mission (NHM), focused on empowering communities to monitor and improve public health services.

Program Highlights

  • 20 Village Health, Sanitation & Nutrition Committees (VHSNCs) formed with 585 active members

  • 🏠 44,445 households surveyed to understand health needs and service gaps

  • 👥 83,229 individuals benefited through improved health awareness and service access

  • 🎓 2,885 people trained (556 men & 2,374 women) in community health monitoring and leadership

  • 🌍 Strengthened community participation in public health governance

  • 📊 Improved monitoring and accountability of local health services

  • 🧠 Enhanced public awareness on health rights and entitlements

  • 🤝 Fostered collective action for better healthcare delivery at the grassroots
